Euro Winners Cup claims first victims

Whereas none of the participants have sealed go-through, six teams are already left with no chances to get to quarterfinals

Bate Borisov capture points in last minute

Belarusian champions Bate Borisov got even with yesterday?s defeat after winning Hungarian Goldwin Pluss in the second game of this Euro Winners Cup 2013. Two goals in the last minute of the game earned the points for Bate, with Zheckho bagging the equalizer and German star Olli Romrig netting the winner. The Fekete brothers, Viktor and Tamas, were on hand again today for Goldwin Pluss, but their contribution, together with Ughy?s opener was not enough for the Magyar, who could not add three more units to their point record here in San Benedetto.

Goals: 1-0: Ughy, min. 10 (1); 2-0: V. Fekete, min. 10 (2); 2-1: Pernai, min. 9 (2); 2-2: Davidovich, min. 1 (2); 3-2: T. Fekete, min. 4 (3); 3-3: Zheckho, min. 1 (3); 3-4: Olli, min. 1 (3);

Kefallinia earn second victory to top group C

Kefallinia beat today Egmond to stay on top of the table in group C, with six points out of six. The match was fairly more balanced than what the final score may reflect. Indeed, despite the Hellenic got 2-0 ahead in the beginning of the second period, Peereboom cut the distance for Egmond shortly afterwards, what got the Dutch struggling during the remaining time for an equalizer that finally never came. Instead, Kefallinia hit twice again in the last seconds to seal their second victory in the tournament.

Goals: 1-0: Amanatidis, min. 10 (2); 2-0: Amanatidis, min. 8 (2); 2-1: Peereboom, min. 6 (2); 3-1: Papastathopoulos, min. 0 (3); 4-1: Nikolau, min. 0 (3)

Besiktas (TUR) close to quarterfinals, Os Belenenses (POR) need a wide victory tomorrow

With six points out of six, Besiktas JK got today on top of the table in group B, as they beat their biggest menace in the group, Portuguese champions Os Belenenses. After Jordan equalized for the Lisbon-based side the advantage netted by Leo Koswal, the Black Eagles got in control of the score, making it 1-4 by the end of the second leg. Despite Meier tried to keep his team fighting, the distance was too wide, and Besiktas ended up snatching the points at stake to command the standings in the group. A victory tomorrow against SC Montredon Bonneveine will seal the go-through for the Turkish lads, whereas Os Belenenses will need a wide victory tomorrow over Lexmax to get into quarterfinals as one of the best second-ranked teams.

Goals: 0-1: Leo, min. 7 (1); 1-1: Jordan, min. 6 (1); 1-2: Bariç, min. 0 (1); 1-3: Tamer, min. 5 (2); 1-4: Metin, min. 1 (2); 2-4: Meier, min. 1 (2); 2-5: Tavares (og), min. 1 (3); 3-5: Meier, min. 0 (3);

Montredon Bonneveine (FRA) stay in the fight as Lexmax (MDA) lose all options

Sporting Club Montredon Bonneveine clinched three points against Lexmax that help them keep their chances to qualify for the next round of this Euro Winners Cup 2013. The blunt 0-3 run by the French side during the first stage was determinant for the final result. When the Moldovan began reaching Boina?s nets, Montredon Bonneveine had already managed a comfortable position, which they will reinforce replying the first attempts by their opponents. Despite the four goals by Negara, Lexmax?s reaction fell one goal short, and the Moldovam see all their options to get onto next round vanish.

Goals: 0-1: De Santi, min. 8 (1); 0-2: Mahraoui, min. 7 (1); 0-3: Barroso, min. 4 (1); 1-3: Negara, min. 7 (2); 1-4: De Santi, min. 4 (2); 2-4: Negara, min. 1 (2); 2-5: Marques, min,. 11 (3); 3-5: Negara, min. 11 (3); 4-5: Vicolas, min. 7 (3); 4-6: Mahraoiu, min. 5 (3); 5-6: Negara, min. 1 (3)

Grasshopper (SUI) edge Griffin (UKR) on penalty shootout and head for quarterfinals

Only the penalty kick shootout could pass sentence on who was getting the points in a terribly fierce battle between two of the strongest teams in the competition, the Ukrainians Griffin and Grasshopper Club Zurich, with the latter snatching the booty and topping the group.

The 4-2 advantage achieved by the Ukrainians during a terribly busy first period was amusingly counteracted by the Swiss in the third period. Two more goals by Stankovic and another one bagged by Nico got the Grasshoppers 3-4 ahead. The strike exchange continued in the third period, with the Borsuk brothers securing a new equalizer that sent the game into extra time.

No goals in the supplementary period lead to the penalty kick shootout, where a new missile by Dejan Stankovic got Grasshoppers the points, as Bakumenko proved not that well aimed as the Swiss bomber. Notwithstanding, and despite having won the other two teams in the fight for quarterfinals, Grasshoppers is not yet qualified, as the win after penalty kick shootout is only awarded with two units.

Goals: 1-0: Borsuk I., min. 11 (1); 1-1: Spacca, min. 9 (1); 2-1: Borsuk. A, min. 9 (1); 3-1: Bakumenko, min. 2 (1); 3-2: Stankovic, min. 1 (1); 4-2: Eremeev, min. 0 (1); 4-3: Nico, min. 5 (2); 4-4: Stankovic, min. 3 (2); 4-5: Stankovic, min. 2 (2); 5-5: Borsuk A., min. 11 (3); 5-6: Stankovic, min. 9 (3); 6-6: Borsuk I., min. 4 (3);

Penalty Kick shootout: Stankovic, in; Bakumenko, miss.

Viareggio (ITA) to fight for ticket to quarterfinals after blasting Sandown Sociedad (ENG)

Viareggio Beach Soccer joined the battle for a quarterfinals berth in this Euro Winners Cup after hammering Sandown Sociedad in the second day of the competition (1-7). A stunning performance by local hero Gabrielle Gori, with five goals, crushed the English resistance, at the time that pushed him to the highest place in the top scorer chart. The defeat leaves Sandown with no option to get onto next round, whereas Viareggio will definitely need a loud victory against Griffin tomorrow if they want to get amongst the best eight teams in the competition.

Goals: 1-0: Ramacciotti, min. 10 (1); 2-0: Gori, min. 3 (1); 3-0: Gori, min. 10 (2); 4-0: Gori, min. 4 (2); 5-0: Di Palma, min, 3 (2); 6-0: Gori, min. 1 (2); 6-1: Corbett, min. 1 (2); 7-1: Gori, min. 0 (2)

Narrow win over Baku FC (AZE) keep Grembach (POL) on the track

The Polish national champions, Grembach Lodz, secured a new win today that will have them contesting Terracina tomorrow for a place in quarterfinals. The match against Baku FC was terribly balanced, and only one goal made the difference. Neither Polish nor Azeri let any ball hit the back of their nets during the first two periods, but, right at the beginning of the last leg, internationals Saganowski and Ziober swept Grembach ahead. Ramil brilliantly replied some minutes afterwards, but Baku FC was unable to get a new crack on the Polish rearguard before the final whistle, and the final 1-2 leave the Azeri with no options to qualify.

Goals: 0-1: Saganowski, min. 11 (3); 0-2: Ziober, min. 11 (3); 1-2: Ramil, min. 3 (3)

Terracina (ITA) brilliantly knocks Kreiss (LTV) out

The Italian national champions, Terracina Beach Soccer, run past their Latvian homologues Kreiss to jump to the highest place of the table in Group E. With six points out of six, and a goal average records of +6, Del Duca?s side attain a privileged place to get into the quarterfinals stage of this Euro Winners Cup, something they will need to certify tomorrow against Polish Grembach Lodz.

Llorenç was on hand again today, with three more goals, to lead the Italian attack, supported by Feudi?s double, and the hits by Corositini and Frainetti. The three attempts by the Latvian side were not enough to counteract the blue-and-white dominion, and with the final whistle, their options are over.

Goals: 1-0: Feudi, min. 6 (1); 1-1: Rubenis, min. 9 (1); 2-1: Llorenç, min. 7 (2); 3-1: Llorenç, min. 7 (1); 4-1: Frainetti, min. 6 (2); 5-1: Corosiniti, min. 11 (3); 5-2: Vasiljevs, min. 4 (3); 6-2: Llorenç, min. 4 (3); 7-2: Feudi, min. 3 (3); 7-3: Jakovlevs, min. 1 (3);

Lokomotiv keep marching to quarterfinals (5-2)

Lokomotiv wanted to maximize their chances of being in the next round of the Euro Winners Cup, and bent Gimnastic de Tarragona to earn three more points that leave them commanding group A. A 2-0 advantage in the first minutes of the game help the Muscovite cruise across the game, and despite Núñez pulled one back for Nàstic, Gorchinskyi fired the third Russian hit home to keep a safe distance in the score. Shaykov finished the game with two goals in the first minutes of the last period, as the Catalan side was unable to respond beyond the 5-2 netted by Frutos.

Goals: 1-0: Makarov, min. 10 (1); 2-0: Makarov, min. 5 (1); 2-1: Núñez, min. 4 (1); 3-1: Gorchinskiy, min. 8 (2); 4-1: Shaykov, min. 11 (3); 5-1: Shaykov, min. 10 (3); 5-2: Frutos, min 1 (2)

Falfal Kfar Qassem upset Sambenedettese from penalty spot

Falfal Kfar Qassem edged Sambenedettese at the penalty kick shootout to see their chances to quarterfinals still open, although their possibilities to get into next round are really low, due to the fact that this last win only got the Israeli two points. Instead, the panorama for the hosts gets truky difficult, too, as only a loud win tomorrow against Mundialito de Clubes Champions, Lokomotiv Moscow, would keep them alive in the competition.

Things seemed to be going fine for the Italians in the first period, when they built a 2-0 advantage. But things changed drastically in the following leg, when Dinho became a true nightmare for the hosts and turned the score around in just three minutes. The transalpine managed to react in the third period, equalizing the score, but luck was no longer on their side in the penalty kick shootout, and Falfala Kfar Qassem seized their first two points in the competition.

Goals: 1-0: Palma, min. 9 (1); 2-0: Lucio Carmo, min. 1 (1);  2-1: Dinho, min. 6 (2); 2-2: Dinho, min. 3 (2); 2-3: Dinho, min. 0 (2); 3-3: Tomeo, min. 7 (3); 3-4: Yatim, min. 5 (3); 4-4: Lucio Carmo, min. 4 (3);
