El Salvador and Costa Rica play tight friendlies in La Paz

La Azul y Blanco won both games narrowly at the Estadio de la Costa del Sol in La Paz

Two friendly matches were played this week between El Salvador and their visitors Costa Rica.

The games took place at the Estadio de la Costa del Sol in La Paz, El Salvador, on Monday 15 February and Tuesday 16 February.

In the first game, the hosts came from behind to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Oscar Cruz, Heber Ramos and Exón Perdomo, after Estiven Espinoza had taken the lead for Costa Rica in the first period.

On Day 2, the match ended with an even tighter victory for El Salvador, with the final score at 2-1. Carlos Guzmán and Andrés Osorio netted for the hosts, while Jonaiker Gamboa scored Costa Rica’s second goal of the series.

Rudis González Gallo, Technical Director of the National Beach Soccer Team of El Salvador, gave a special mention to the players making their debuts with the squad: Oscar Merino, Cesar Rivera, Emerson Cerna and Carlos Guzmán, who scored his first goal.

The experience these young players have gained could prove vital in the nation’s qualification campaign for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which will take place in Russia later this year.

It is exciting to see an increasing number of beach soccer friendlies are being played across the world as the sport begins recover from a period of inactivity, and to prepare for the 2021 season.
