CONMEBOL Libertadores Fútbol Playa gets underway in Rio

Just days after the Copa do Brasil ends, South American clubs gather in Rio for the continent’s biggest club contest

The CONMBOL Libertadores Fútbol Playa Brasil 2018 was launched yesterday (Sunday 25th November), following a technical meeting which officially begun the competition.

Representatives from the 12 different clubs participating in the Libertadores came together in a hotel in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.

The most important club competition on the South American continent will take place between the 26th November and 2nd December.

The local Brazilian teams go into this showdown, off the back of playing an intense few days in the Copa do Brasil, which came to a close on Saturday, at the Parque Olímpico da Barra, Rio.

This will also be the backdrop for the CONMEBOL Libertadores Fútbol Playa Brasil 2018. The local teams who won their place in the tournament in the Brazilian Cup include Vasco da Gama (current Libertadores champions), Sampaio Corrêa-MA (newly-crowned champions of the Copa do Brasil) and Vitória-BA (Copa do Brasil runners-up).

A draw on 19th November organised the 12 teams into three groups, and each side will battle it out in a Round Robin system to try and make it through to the next round.

Group A: Vasco da Gama (BRA) – Puerta del Lago (PAR) – Delfín SC (ECU) – CD La 25 Export (COL)

Group B: Sampaio Corrêa (BRA) – Hamacas FC (BOL) – Code Iquique (CHI) – Academia Tito Drago (PER)

Group C: CA Bella Vista (URU) – Monagas Difalo (VEN) – Acassuso (ARG) – Vitória-BA (BRA)
