Cerro Porteño claim Clubs Challenger Cup São Sebastião!

The Paraguayan side bend neighbours Club Libertad to round perfect weekend in Brazil

Cerro Porteño clinched this first Clubs Challenger Cup held at São Sebastião after brilliantly beating all the opponents in the competition. The Ciclón bent Club Libertad today with another great performance by Guaraní international Carlos Carballo, and added three more points to their records.

A 4-0 run in the first period got things firmly on the way for the Azulgrana, who would resist Libertad’s attempts to seize their third win in the competition and, consequently, grasp the Cup in São Sebastião.

Cerro Porteño did not only take the champions cup home, but also hoarded the individual awards, with Carlos Carballo being named the Best Player and Top Scorer of the competition (together with Flamengo’s Thyago) and Yoao Rolón being awarded as the Best Goalkeeper.

In the last game of the day, and despite having lost their chances after Cerro’s win, Flamengo went full on for the win against CA Rosario Central. A poker by Thyago (which helped him equal Carballo atop of the scorers list) helped Fla cruise part the Argentinean side (8-1).

Although it took the Carioca side a while to open the score, a 5-0 run in the second leag sealed the win. Fiorino pulled one back for the Gigante de Arroyito, but there was nothing the Rosarino side could do at that point.
