Cartel Waterloo claim third Belgian league title

Belgian champions are crowned as Cartel Waterloo beat LSA Perwez in final

Cartel Waterloo took their third league title after having a year out when Vamos Braine-le-Chaateau won their first ever title last year.

This meant that Cartel Waterloo missed out on a spot at the Euro Winners Cup 2018 in Nazaré, but they will return in 2019 to test themselves against the big boys of Europe.

It is the side’s third Belgian league title, and they saw off LSA Perwez in a tightly fought game which ended 6-4, to retake their place at the top of the Belgian beach soccer league.

Mathieu Vlaminick was in inspired form throughout the tournament and will be looking to impress at his second Euro Winners Cup, his last one being in 2016.

LSA dominated the regular phases of the championship and were confident going into the final. But a real turning point in the match was a missed penalty mid-way through the game, which opened the door for Cartel Waterloo to take control.

Newteam Beach Soccer Brussels finished in third place after beating BST Mojitos Rebecq by five goal to three in the third-place play-off.

A huge congratulations to both teams, who gave it their all to make it to the final.

Thanks also to the town of La Panne for hosting the wonderful event.
