Canarinha smashes Paraguay to defend crown

Ecuador keep some sweet as clinching the Bronze Medal in the II South American Beach Games they hosted in Manta

Brazil left no option at all for mighty Paraguayans (7-0) in the final of the II Juegos Suramericanos de Playa – Manta 2011. The Verdeamarela had placed all their expectations in defending the Gold they achieved in the last edition of the Beach Games, held two years ago in Uruguay, and they accomplished their mission with a brilliant and with authoritarian performance. Almost tyrannically, many would say. The Brazilians needed a big victory in a tournament so to start restoring their self-confidence after Russia snatched them the World throne in Ravenna, and left them without the Intercontinental Cup in Dubai last month.

Just as had happened in most of the games by Guga’s new Brazil, the scoring responsibility was split among different players, and not even one of them scored more than once. André, Bruno Xavier, Sidney, Dino Tambau, Anderson, Souza and Fernando DDI noted their name down in the registers. Although Paraguay are a tough defender, and the score was only 1-0 by the end of first period, the Brazilians fielded all their magic after the break to crush the Guarani’s dreams and shout out loud who the best in the continent is, as they amused the thousands of spectators who did not want to be left without experiencing the “Jogo Bonito” first hand.

Last glory stays in Ecuador

The hosts finalized their participation in these II South American Beach games retaining the bronze medal, a prize they needed to fiercely fight against Argentina (7-6). The Ecuadorian supporters will last long to forget such an amazing showdown as the one offered yesterday by his team and the Albiceleste. Just one hit decided a 13-goal battle to make the medal stay home, and breath was hold for the last seconds, with Petrasso’s team, just one goal down, trying everything to level the score.

But fortunately for The Tricolor the ball did never find their nets again, and the Bronze Medal stayed with them, finally giving their amazing crowd the happiness they deserved.

Final Standings:

1st – BRAZIL
2nd – PARAGUAY
3rd – ECUADOR
