Brazilian sides dominate CONMEBOL Libertadores day one

Opening day of Libertadores sees wins for Brazil’s clubs as well as La 25 Sport, CODE Iquique and Bellavista

It seems that the Brazilian clubs still had plenty in their energy reserves after just having had a single day to rest after the Copa do Brasil, as they each handed decisive victories to their opponents on day one.

The first game of the competition saw a Group C match between Bellavista (URU) and Monagas (VEN). The tie was a 16-goal thriller in which the Uruguayans edged the win by two goals, as the final score finished 9-7.

Next was the turn of Victoria, still smarting from their defeat against Sampaio in the Brazilian Cup final, to hand a 7-1 defeat to Acassuso from Argentina.

Sampaio then followed their countrymen’s example by scoring seven of their own to sink Bolivian side, Hamacas, in Group B’s first match. In the other bout in Group B, CODE Iquique from Chile, won 5 – 3 against Peruvians, ACAD. TITO Drago.

In Group A, it was Colombia against Ecuador, as La 25 Sport took on Delfín, winning the game by seven goals to five in one of the day’s closer matchup. The final game of the day saw reigning champions of the competition, Vasco da Gama, put ten past Puerta del Lago from Paraguay, who managed to score seven of their own in response, making this matchup the highest scoring of the day.
