Brazil beats Argentina to claim Copa Mercosur

Guga?s side turn the score around to end up 1-2 ahead as Uruguay clinched the third position against Paraguay

Brazil has stepped into this 2012 in a really sweet mood. After having 2011 as one of the worst years in their history, seeing how Russia snatched them the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in September and the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup in Dubai, and the irreverent Nigeria did not let the Copa Lagos fly to Rio, this January has already confirmed that the Verdeamarela are set to steer things back to their control.

Guga’s team proved they are in a good shape by beating the Beach Soccer Worldwide Team last January 22nd, something they further confirmed by beating hosts Argentineans in the Copa de La Costa (Buenos Aires) and this last Copa Mercosur (Corrientes). In this occasion, it was through Fernando DDI’s double that the Tetracampeao could bend the spirited Albiceleste, who had got ahead in the score.

In the other game of the day, Uruguay beat Paraguay in a really balanced match and claimed the third position in the tournament, after Brazil had banned their chances to the final on the semifinals stage on Saturday.

The complete results of this last Copa Mercosur were

Saturday, January 28th
Semifinals
Argentina 7 – 3 Paraguay
Brazil 7 – 3 Uruguay

Sunday, January 29th
Finals
Uruguay 5 – 4 Paraguay (3rd place final)
Argentina 1 – 2 Brazil
