Al Nasr upset Al Ahli to lift President?s Cup

League Champions found it impossible to fight back their opponent?s rent without red-carded Mauricinho

Two elements decisively unbalanced the final of UAE Beach Soccer President’s Cup, to see Al Nasr upsetting league champions Al Ahli 5-3. An injury to Qambar Mohammed in the very first minute followed by a red card for a second bookable offence for Brazilian striker Mauricio Oliveira seemed disarm Al Ahli’s solidness.

Al Nasr made the most of these two opportunities as Ali Karim cancelled out Rami Musaibi’s strike before two quick goals from Adnan Ahmed and Iranian import Hussain Mohammed put Al Nasr firmly on the road to victory by the end of the second period.

Al Nasr further tightened their control of the match when Adnan Ahmed found the back of the net for the second time early in the final period to make it 4-1. Al Ahli would not give up, though, and they came close to fighting back from a hopeless situation after Rashid Hassan scored, only to see Lebanese striker Haitham Mohammed net one to have thins on a safe ground for Al Nasr. Rashid Hassan’s 5-3 came too late to trigger the league champion’s ambitions, as the few seconds to count down were far not enough to make Al Nasr’s dominion tremble.

Adel Al Rahi was thrilled with the win. “We always believed we could win the cup. We know Al Ahli is a strong team with some very good players, but we had decided to work as a team and that proved to be crucial,” Adel explained.

Earlier on Saturday, Fujairah had secured the third place in the competition with a tight 5-4 win over Al Shabab, in a march in which they were 3-4 down in the last minutes. The hat-trick scored by local hero Saeed Abdullah made the difference in a terribly fought match for the bronze.
