Vasco da Gama, first semifinalist

Bokinha inspire the vascaínos in a tough match, as CD Iquique or Club Malvin have options to make the cut, too

Trem Bala da Areia was the first team to secure a berth in semifinals, following an incredibly hard-fought win over CD Iquique under an intense rainstorm.

Bokinha became the key man for the Vascaínos today, with four goals that ended making the difference in a game where the Chileans were really close to bring up a big upset. The final 7-5, sealed by the Brazilian number 7 in the last seconds of the game, makes Vasco da Gama the best team in Group A.

After the defeat today, CD Iquique, will need to win tomorrow’s clash against Bolivian champions Hamacas FC.

The other team with options in the group is Club Malvín from Uruguay, who lead a sound win today over Venezuela’s Real Academia Reales Miranda for their 5th points in the competition.

Despite the laudable performance today, in which they gave no options to their opponents, things are not in Club Malvin’s hands. They have to beat Vasco da Gama  in the last game of the day, and need Hamacas FC to upset CD Iquique. Otherwise, they will not make it through.

Things are way more open in group B, where the four contenders have the same options to progress to semifinals. Only the winners of the two games tomorrow will advance. You win, you go through. You lose, you play for 5th or 7th place. Just like that.
