Ukraine and Portugal hit first in Kiev

Hosts and Lusitanians clinch the first points at stake in the BSWW Kiev Cup 2012 after bending Holland (4-2) and Italy (7-6)

Ukraine had a sweet, steady debut in the Beach Soccer Worldwide Kiev Cup they are hosting at the Hydropark stadium. Thanks to their 4-2 win over Netherlands, Bozhenko’s team climbs to the head of the table, looking forward to a thrilling weekend which can get them best sensations back after a bitter 2011.

It was not easy for the Ukrainians to see the fruit to their growing dominion, though, and it was not until mid second period that Cherevko swept them ahead. But when they got started,  it took little time for them to almost kill the match, with Zborovsky and Pachev getting things 3-0 just seconds afterwards.

But the Orange had not had their last word on the match, as they clearly stated right from the first second of the last leg. Rawidjan opened the Dutch records, to be followed by Leo Koswal to have things really tight for the last stage of the game. And so they were, as it was not until the last minute of the game that Korniychuk let his teammates and the local crowd breath calmly, securing the points and the eventual head of the table.

Goals: 1-0: Cherevko, min. 7 (2); 2-0: Zborovskiy, min. 9 (2); 3-0: Pachev, min. 9 (2); 3-1: Rawidjan, min. 0 (3); 3-2: Koswal, min. 5 (3); 4-2: Korniychuk, min. 11 (3)

Portugal edge Italy after terrific comeback

Portugal stepped onto this maiden edition of the Beach Soccer Worldwide Kiev Cup fielding their wider records in the Old Continent. Brandishing their current silver place in Europe, Ze Miguel’s lads managed a tight, but prestige-building victory over one of that teams really really hard to beat: the intense Italy. By edging the Azzurri, the Lusitanian clinched the first points at stake to get themselves the just behind hosts Ukraine, who got a better goal-average after their game against Holland.

It was a really hard-fought win for the Portuguese side, though. Indeed, Madjer and co. saw themselves up to 1-4 down when second period began, but their reaction was just awesome.  In approximately 12 minutes, the Iberian turned things amazingly around, striking back from that 1-4 to the 7-5. The Italians seemed to find no possible reaction at that point, unable to find Graça’s nets again. When Gori finally managed it, the Portuguese were already too dominant on the Hydropark sand to let such a hard-battled victory flee from their hands.

Goals: 0-1: Feudi, min. 3 (1); 1-1: Madjer, min. 3 (1); 1-2: Marinho (o.g.), min. 7 (1); 1-3: Palmacci, min. 10 (1); 1-4: Ramacciotti, min. 0 (2); 2-4: B. Novo, min. 2 (2); 2-5: Palmacci, min. 4 (2); 3-5: Marinho, min. 6 (2); 4-5: Graça, min. 1 (3); 5-5: Jordan, min. 1 (3); 6-5: Madjer, min. 3 (3); 7-5: Coimbra, min. 5 (3); 7-6: Gori, min. 9 (3);
