Spain, Nigeria set up winner-takes-all clash in Lagos

It’s all to play for in both the club and country competitions at the Copa Lagos.

Both sides of the Copa Lagos remain finely poised going into the third and final day, with Spain and Nigeria set to battle it out for the international title while the club sides all sit on three points ahead of the final round of matches.

Spain are in pole position ahead of their clash with the hosts, having made it two wins from two as they survived a late Morocco fightback to prevail 8-5.

Joaquin Alonso’s men dominated the first two periods and led 6-2 going into the last 12 minutes thanks to impressive displays from the likes of Eduard Suarez and Pablo Perez.

They were made to work hard in the end though, as Morocco piled on the pressure with three late strikes only for Spain to survive and keep their trophy hopes alive.

Nigeria go into their clash with the Spanish off the back of another thrilling success, after Suleiman Mohammad’s late strike ensured a 9-8 victory over Lebanon.

The hosts’ winner came just over a minute from time in a tight contest that saw the lead exchange hands regularly prior to Suleiman’s exquisite late volley, which leaves Lebanon to battle it out with Morocco for third place.

In the clubs section, all teams have three points to their name, with Kebbi BSC recovering well from their defeat on day one of the Copa Lagos by beating Gidi Sharks 9-4 on Saturday.

The likes of Dozie Frank and Kareem Hammed helped see off a Sharks side who had opened with a win on Friday – Angelo Schirinzi’s men ultimately unable to cope defensively with Kebbi – while Pepsi Football Academy picked up their first points with a 3-2 win over Arsenal BSC.

Sunday promises to provide a thrilling finale, with Pepsi having Olalekan Yakub to thank for their victory – the forward scoring twice to down the English champions.
