Paraguay to face Brazil in final!

The Guaraní keep head of group thanks to a better goal-average, with 4 teams tied with 6 points!

Paraguay National Team will take on Brazil in the final of the Copa América Futbol Playa tomorrow. The Albirroja, despite losing their game against Ecuador at the penalty kick shootout, prevail as the team with better registers in group B.

Amazingly enough, up to four teams in that pool B ended this group stage with six points, so as the game advanced to extra time, Paraguay had already secured their berth in the final.

But there was a lot of suffering for the Guaraní up to that point, as despite getting 2-0 ahead in the first half of the game, Ecuador bounced back and made it 2-4 with only two minutes remaining.

A free kick by star Pedro Morán, and Zayas’ late equalizer let the Paraguayans keep the head of the group.

The team with better chances to go through at the beginning of the day, Colombia, could not manage the pressure and lost 5-4 to Peru in the last breath of the game, thus falling to the fourth position in the group.

Everything seemed to be on good track for the Cafeteros at the beginning of the game, managing to step ahead in the score on two occasions, but they seemed not to see the Peruvian reaction coming.

With only eight seconds remaining, Vidal’s winner for Peru made the Colombian expectations fall to pieces.

In group A, Uruguay secured the second place in the group following a penalty-kick-shootout win over Chile, again in a tightly balanced battle only decided from the 9 meters. Gastón became the key man for a Charrúa side who managed to stay afloat when the Chilean reaction was close to turn things around.

Closing the group, Argentina could do little against an absolutely inspired Brazil. The hosts run past the Albiceleste following the same mis-en-scène we have been seeing lately in Gilberto’s lads: After forcing their opponents to do a huge effort to counteract their talent in the first periods, Brazil had no mercy in the third, sealing a loud 9-2 win that leaves little room for speculation.
