Paraguay, El Salvador pick up Iquique wins

Both 2014 finalists are two from two at the Juegos Bolivarianos de Playa in Chile.

Last year’s Juegos Bolivarianos de Playa beach soccer finalists Paraguay and El Salvador maintained their strong start to the 2016 competition with victories in Iquique on Wednesday.

The sides will go head to head in their III Juegos Bolivarianos de Playa group stage finale on Thursday to battle for first spot in Pool B, after holders Paraguay – gunning for a third successive title – moved past Venezuela 4-0.

La Albirroja were 6-1 winners against Panama in their opening match and followed that up with another convincing success, while El Salvador hit double figures as they made it two wins from two with a 10-1 victory over Panama.

It leaves both of last year’s finalists on six points ahead of their decider on Thursday while, in Group A, Ecuador are in control after they edged a thrilling contest 9-8 against Peru.

With a two-point cushion at the top of the group, Ecuador simply need to avoid a slip-up when they take on hosts Chile, who were beaten on penalties by Peru on Tuesday.
