Juegos Bolivarianos semi-finals decided

The culmination of the group stage sets up an exciting final-four prospect in Iquique, Chile.

Peru, Paraguay, Chile and El Salvador will contest the semi-finals of the III de Playa beach soccer competition after the finale of the group phase on Thursday.

The final-four clashes will take place on Friday, with hosts Chile booking their semi-final place courtesy of a 7-3 win over Ecuador in Iquique. Sebastian Vega scored twice in a relatively comfortable outing for the home favourites as they ensured they finished two points clear at the top of Group A.

In Group B, Jesus Caballero’s brace helped defending champions Paraguay to a thrilling 5-4 win against last year’s runners-up El Salvador after extra-time.

The sides were level at 4-4 after three periods before Orlando Zayas ensured the victory while, elsewhere in the group, a late fightback from Venezuela saw off a spirited Panama effort.

Alberto Barria and Eliecer Garcia had Panama in control at the end of the first period but Venezuela gradually battled back to edge proceedings 4-3 as they picked up their first points of the competition.
