The Brazilian is back in South America after a spell in the Gulf with UAE.
Following his departure from the role of United Arab Emirates boss, Brazilian coach Gustavo Zloccowick has agreed a two-year contract to take charge of Paraguay.
Guga – who also lists Portugal, Russia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Brazil among his former employers – returns to South America after two-and-a-half years in the Gulf, where he had been the first professional beach soccer coach to work in the region.
Despite a disappointing showing in the recent Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup in Dubai, Guga leaves Dubai 13th in the beach soccer world rankings as he prepares for his new assignment with Paraguay.
“I am very happy to take on this challenge with Paraguay,” he explained after putting pen to paper on his new contract.
“After a decade in Asian beach soccer, having made some great memories, I am happy to be back in South America and especially with such an attractive project to work on.
“It will involve not only the men’s national team but also grassroots work as well as women’s beach soccer and the club game, with the brief of expanding the sport across the entire country.”
Guga will get to see his new charges in action regularly over the coming weeks, with Paraguay in action at both the Juegos Bolivarianos Playa in Chile and the Copa America Futbol Playa in Santos, Brazil.
Both events will serve as preparation for Paraguay’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualification bid, which takes place on the home sand of Asuncion in February of next year.
