Beach Soccer World Cup hosts The Bahamas continue their preparations for the competition against European giants Switzerland this weekend
The Bahamas will get a taste of what is to come at next year’s Beach Soccer World Cup when the Caribbean nation hosts two friendlies against European heavyweights Switzerland this weekend.
The World Cup takes place on the island in April and May next year, with The Bahamas set to become the first Caribbean nation to host a senior FIFA event amid much excitement.
As the country continues to prepare for the prestigious event, their side will take on the former Euro Beach Soccer League champions in two friendlies on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th April.
Held at the BFA Beach Soccer Stadium in Nassau, The Bahamas take on a Swiss side ranked sixth in the world and making their first competitive appearance of the year.
The Swiss team will have the Euro Beach Soccer Cup in Belgrade and World Cup qualification matters on their minds while The Bahamas will seek to showcase some of the expertise gained by working with revered Switzerland coach Angelo Schirinzi in recent months.
A highly decorated FIFA instructor, Schirinzi has been assisting with The Bahamas’ increased training and preparation ahead of the World Cup next year as they look to impress the beach soccer community on home sand.
Fred Lunn, Bahamas Football Association General Secretary, is confident the fixtures at Malcolm Park will have a positive effect for both the squad and spectators.
“The squad has been in training for several months,” he explained.
“This is the first step in the team’s preparation for the FIFA 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup.
“The event will offer fans the opportunity to see their favourite players face off against top-ranked, world-class players.”
