Arsenal replace Silesia as English champions

BS Arsenal were crowned winners in Lee Valley on Sunday with victory against the former holders.

BS Arsenal lifted the English National League title in London on Sunday with a 7-2 win against the defending champions Silesia BS St Neots.

Held in Lee Valley, just outside the capital, the competition began with Arsenal seeing off Portsmouth BS 7-3 in the semi-finals while Silesia – complete with the decorated former Poland international Boguslaw Saganowski – saw off Isle of Wight BS 8-7 after extra time.

It set up a final between Arsenal, made up mostly of England internationals, and a Silesia side with a heavy Polish influence.

Ultimately, the holders surrendered their title after a convincing display from Arsenal as Scott Lawson, Ryuichi Shibutani, Jaz Camara, Tom O’Neill and Aaron Clarke sent their side into a 5-0 lead after two periods.

Dariush Golebiowski and Pawel Kaminski pulled goals back for Silesia but Terry Bowes and Clarke settled any Arsenal nerves as they sealed the title.

Arsenal team-mates Lawson and Clarke were named MVP and Top Scorer respectively while fellow England internationals Tommy Jackson claimed the Best Goalkeeper and Best Youth Player awards.

The recent beach soccer tournament on Appley Beach, Isle of Wight, was voted the country’s Best Regional Event and in the London Youth Under-13s final, Brimsdown were winners against Shoreditch.
