Ecuador see go-through as they send Uruguay home

Ecuador became the second semifinalist of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 ? CONMEBOL Qualifier Merlo-San Luis. The narrow victory over Uruguay had the Tricolor accessing the next round, where they will have two chances to get their passport to Tahiti. First of them in the semifinals, where they are to face the second ranked team of group A, and if they lose this game, they will have a second chance in the game for the 3rd place on Sunday.

Both teams knew they were vying, all or nothing, for a place amongst the best four teams in the continent, and, consequently, the loser would be left out of the race to the World Cup. The Charrúa, with that idea in mind, hit the sand full gas to try get control of the game. Matías turned this thought into the opener for his side, but Ecuador would not give up that early. Their feisty display ended up paying off for them as two goals by Barre would turn the score around.

Uruguay were not having a comfortable time, but their entity as a team and their intense game got them counteracting and unbalancing the score on their side once again. The Celeste needed to resist the Ecuadorian siege for nine more minutes, something they were not successful at. In two minutes, Gallegos and Cedeño replied to seal the Tri pass to semifinals, thus denying all chances for Uruguay.

Peru upset Colombia to mess things up in Group A

Despite nothing was at stake for them, Peru offered a great image today, beating Colombia and tightening things in group A of this FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 ? CONMEBOL Qualifier taking place in Merlo, San Luis (Argentina).

Getting 0-2 ahead and letting the Cafeteros no chance to reply was the best prove that the Peruvians were not thinking in letting themselves go without fighting and proving what kind of team they are. That solid advantage was the one finally driving them to the points, as despite Colombia replied twice during the third period, the distance was already too wide, and Polanco?s lads managed every menace with a new hit to leave the gap as it was.

Peru?s victory mean that Chile, Colombia and Paraguay have still chances to get into next round. Only the games tomorrow will pass sentence on who is accompanying Argentina in Group A.

Goals: 0-1: Castro, min. 1 (1); 0-2: Isla, min. 9 (2); 1-2: Saavedra, min. 8 (3); 1-3: Vidal, min. 4 (3); 2-3: Rojas, min. 3 (3); 2-4: Saavedra (og)

Argentina get into semifinals under the storm

Under a terrific downpour, Argentina sealed the ticket to the semifinals of this FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup ? CONMEBOL Qualifier after dramatically coming back Paraguay?s 0-1 in the last minutes of the game.

Before the matches began, both the hosts and the Guaraní knew that a victory today would mean making a great step towards semifinals. But after Colombia?s defeat in the second game today, that win would automatically mean the ticket to next round for Argentina, and this is precisely what they looked for as they hit the wet sand of the Parque Recreativo.

Notwithstanding, the first to hit happened to be Paraguay, with Echeverría sweeping his side ahead in the dying seconds of the first half. The Guaraní stood still for the rest of the match, denying all Argentinean attempts and making the hosts fear a very bitter evening.

But with the game entering its last five minutes, Argentina found the light across the thick clouds above Merlo. First, De Ezeyza rocketed a free kick home to balance the score, and with just one minute to the final horn, Levi got Petrasso?s side mathematically into semifinals.
