Amusing opening in San Benedetto

Favourites play their role, with Sambenedettese and Terracina clinching the Italian victories in Euro Winners Cup

Kefallinia (GRE) edge Bate Borisov (BLR) in opening

Just one goal had AO Kefallinia prevailing over Bate Borisov, in the first game in the Euro Winners Cup taking place in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy.  Thanks to a solid display, the Hellenic managed to bend the dynamic Belarusian, despite a notable performance by star singning Oliver Romrig. The two goals by the German forward  were not enough to disarm the Greek, who managed to step ahead in three occasions, with the latter being the definitive.

Goals:  1-0: Salapatas, min. 10 (1);  1-1: Olli, min. 2 (1); 2-1: Paris, min. 0 (1); 2-2: Olli, min. 10 (2); 3-2: Triantafyllidis, min. 0 (2)

The Fekete bros. rescue the points in last breath for Goldwin Pluss (HUN)

Goldwin Pluss bagged the first three points at stake in Group C after a last breath winner by target man Viktor Fekete. Despite being ahead most of the game, the Hungarian team saw the Dutch Beach Soccer Egmond turn the score around  in a prolific first minutes of the third leg, changing things from 1-3 to 4-3. But Goldwin managed to react, and two goals by Tamas and Viktor Fekete, with the latter taking place just seconds to the final horn, earned the Central European the win and, at the same time, the eventual head of the group.

Goals: 0-1: Szalanczi, min. 7 (1); 0-2: Duindam (og), min. 6 (1); 1-2: Wijker, min. 1 (2); 1-3: Angyalos, min. 1 (2); 2-3: Groot, min. 11 (3); 3-3: Ruder, min. 10 (3); 4-3: Wijker, min. 8 (3); 4-4: T. Fekete, min. 7 (3); 5-4: V. Fekete, min. 0 (3)

Lexmax (MDA) close to surprise, but Besiktas (TUR) seize the points (5-4)

Moldovan side Lexmax was close to upset one of the big names in this Euro Winners Cup, Besiktas JK. The Istanbul-based side managed to get ahead once and again, only to find, though, the mighty Moldovans equalize the advantages. A 2-0 run midway third period, thanks to the hits by Dutchman Leo Koswal and Metin, got the Turkish to a more comfortable position. And it was that distance, indeed, the one finally making the difference in the end. Lungu?s 4-3 was immediately replied by Bariç (two goals today), and Negara?s 5-4 came way too late for Lexmax.

Goals: Onur, min. 11 (1); 1-1: Negara, min. 7 (1); 2-1: Bariç, min. 6 (2); 2-2: Capsamun, min. 0 (2); 3-2: Leo, min. 7 (3); 4-2: Merin, min. 5 (3); 4-3: Lungu, min. 4 (3); 5-3: Bariç, min. 4 (3); 5-4: Negara, min. 0 (3);

Os Belenenses (POR) edge Montredon (FRA) in busy match (6-5)

CF Os Belenenses, with five members of the Portuguese National, found it really hard to beat the French side of Montredon Bonneveine, who in turn had in his teams two international players, too. Marques, regularly capped by Les Bleus, was on hand to keep his team always fighting, with three goals, but the hat-trick netted Meier and the double by Jordan on the Lisbon-based squad denied the French any access to the points. The French lost their temper on several occasions during the last two stages, and this lack of focus was something the Portuguese lads perfectly took advantage of ?

0-1: Marques, min. 10 (1); 0-2: Bru, min. 8 (1); 1-2: Meier, min. 0 (1); 2-2: Jordan, min. 10 (2); 3-2: Meier, min. 8 (2); 4-2: Meier, min. 6 (2); 4-3: Marques, min. 3 (3); 4-4: Enepo, min. 10 (3); 4-5: Marqués, min. 9 (3); 5-5: Coimbra, min. 9 (3); 6-5: Jordan, min. 0 (3)

Grasshoppers (SUI) upset Viareggio (ITA) after brilliant comeback

Grasshoppers Club Zurich proved today why they have got to San Benedetto earmarked as one of the favourites. The Swiss side knocked the current Coppa Italia Enel champions down after brilliantly coming back from a three-goal disadvantage.  Playing in a pitch they know very well, the black-and-white side got widely ahead, making it 3-0 at the beginning of the second leg. But in just five minutes, the panorama changed dramatically. Four-hit burst by Osso, Nico, Amarelle and Stankovic got the alpine ahead, with Stankovic widening the distance midway third period.

The Zurich-based side would not let their opponents on top again, systematically replying any attempt to cut the distance down. Gori?s magic was not enough for the squadra bianconera, as Hoppler and Nico came immediately to quench any sparkle that could light the Italian expectations.

Griffin (UKR) run past Sandown Sociedad (ENG) after balanced first stage (5-12)

Sandown Sociedad were put to a really demanding test in their first game in this Euro Winners Cup 2013. The Ukrainian Griffin is one of the favourites to the final stages of the tournament, and after the offensive artillery they fielded today, it is not difficult to reckon why? Twelve goals make the Kiev-based the top scorers of the tournament, and place them ahead in the group.

The English side offered a tight resistance during most of the first period, but after Morris? 3-4, the Ukrainians geared up and opened a wide gap.  After a 7-0 run, the next time the English could find Griffin?s nets the result was already 3-11. One more goal in each end closed a rather unbalanced score (5-12), which gets Griffin on top of the table in group D.

(og), min. 10 (1); 1-2: Eremeev, min. 9 (1); 2-2: Kerr, min. 9 (1); 2-3: Mahda, min. 7 (1); 2-4: Borsuk A., min. 7 (1);  3-4: Morris, min. 5 (1); 3-5: Panteleichuk, min. 3 (1); 3-6: Borsuk A., min. 1 (1); 3-7: Panteleichuk, min. 1 (2); 3-8: Borsuk A., min. 0 (2); 3-9: Eremeev, min. 8 (3); 3-10: Eremeev, min. 8 (3); 3-11: Borsuk I., min. 6 (3); 4-11: Giancovich, min. 5 (3); 5-11: Kerr, min. 3 (3); 5-12: Illichov, min. 1 (3)

Grembach Lodz (POL) give Kreiss (LTV) no option

Grembach Lodz, comprised by the backbone of the Polish National Side, one of the most combative in Europe, is another of the teams that have come to San Benedetto aiming at the highest positions in this Euro Winners Cup. In their first match in the competition, the Polish have consistently beaten Latvian Kreiss. National heroes Ziober and Saganowski, with two goals each, made things impossible for Kreiss, as they sealed the first win for a Grembach Lodz which is set to be one of the toughest sides in the completion.

Llorenç grasp the points for Terracina (ITA)

Defending Serie A Enel champions, Terrachina Beach Soccer, hit the sand in San Benedetto clinching the three points at stake, after their win over Baku FC. Emiliano Del Duca can also be really pleased with the performance of his last signing, Spaniard Llorenç, as the Catalan forward scored the three goals that sealed the victory for the Pontini.

After the Italian side got 0-2 ahead, Ramil could only pull one back for the Azeri, but that hit was immediately responded by the game?s undisputable MVP, Llorenç, to close the final 3-1 and get Terracina at the highest part of the table.

Goals: 0-1: Llorenç, min. 6 (2); 0-2: Llorenç, min. 2 (2); 1-2: Ramil, min. 0 (2); 1-3: Llorenç, min. 9 (3);

Lokomotiv (RUS) hammer Falfala Kfar Qassem (ISR)

Leonov?s missile in the first seconds of the game was a clear message of Lokomotiv?s intentions. The defending Russian League and Mundialito de Clubes champions, banking on a majority of Russian National side players, plus Portuguese sorcerers Madjer and Belchior, target nothing less that the title, and they are set to inflict serious harm on any opponent they mace face in San Benedetto as of today.

Despite the early opener, the score did not move again in the first leg. But in the second, Shaykov and Belchior pushed the Russian advantage to 0-3. Dino managed to pull one back for the Israeli, but his challenge was severely and immediately punished by the Tsars. Just to wipe off any kind of doubt, Lokomotiv hammered the Israeli goal during the last period of the game, with four more goals that help the Muscovite top the table in group A.

Hosts Sambenedettese (ITA) welcome competition with solid victory over Nàstic de Tarragona (ESP)

Sambenedettese Beach Soccer could open this Euro Winners Cup they are hosting with a satisfying win over Nàstic de Tarragona. Hat trick by national star Giuseppe Soria and the contribution by the Portuguese trio was the key for the red-and-blue side to bend the Spanish representative.

Despite Frutos swept the Tarragona-based ahead, the Sambenedettese reacted in the very following minute, and turned the score around with three hits that got them comfortably in command. The Catalan side was set to fight back and not to lose face to the game, though, and their enthusiastic attitude was rewarded before the first horn, with two goals that leveled things again. With the beginning of the second leg, the hosts felt more like themselves and ended up getting in control of the game.  Nastic?s resistance went no further than Fruto?s new equalizer after for the 4-4, and the Italians sealed the win with three more goals, before Soria netted the 4-8 to definitively finish the game.
